Methodology
Data sources
Google Maps listings found by searching each of 14 equipment types across 130 Malaysian towns and districts, then each provider’s own website where one is listed. Last built 2026-10-23. The directory currently holds 1,213 providers.
Which town a provider belongs to
A provider belongs to a town by its own Google Maps pin, checked against official district boundaries (geoBoundaries, ADM2). If the pin lies in the district the town sits in, the town stays; if the pin lies in a district that belongs to exactly one searched town, the provider is placed there. It never depends on which search returned it. When the pin falls in a district shared by several towns, or in a district with no searched town, the provider is not listed.
Equipment types
A business is listed for an equipment type only when that type appears in its business name, its Google category (forklift and generator only) or its own website. That includes companies that rent, sell or service the machines; it does not say which. Spare-parts, battery and tyre shops are left out. It shows what the business advertises, not what is in the yard.
Ranking
Providers are sorted by a weighted rating: (v / (v + m)) × R + (m / (v + m)) × C, where R is the provider’s Google rating, v its review count, m = 10, and C = 4.563 is the average rating across the directory. This stops a 5.0 from one review outranking 4.8 from hundreds.
When a “top rated” page is published
A provider counts as top rated when it has a Google rating of at least 4.0 and at least 5 reviews. A town-by-equipment page is published only when at least 3 providers qualify, and lists up to 10. The number in each title is that count. 84 of 1,820 combinations pass.
What is left out
Prices, opening hours and any field without a source. We do not verify certificates. Ratings are Google’s, not ours, and are shown as text only.
